Bayer Has Paid $1.4 Billion In Settlements for Cases Involving Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) And/Or Pulmonary Embolism (PE), Also Called "Venous Clot Injuries"
(Posted by Tom Lamb at DrugInjuryWatch.com)
Previously, we reported that more than 2500 YAZ / Yasmin / Ocella / Gianvi lawsuits or legal claims involving blood clots, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and/or pulmonary embolism (PE) cases, had not been settled as of April 15, 2013.
Now, from the Bayer Stockholders' Newsletter for Second quarter of 2013 we know that the number of unresolved pending DVT and PE blood clot-related lawsuits or claims subject to a so-called "tolling agreement" has increased by about 300, which indicates that new cases are still being filed by women who used one of the drospirenone (DRSP) birth control pills made by Bayer, which are YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Beyaz, and Safyral.
In relevant part, as found at page 64 of Bayer's Financial Report As of June 30, 2013 (PDF file):

Bayer has only been settling claims in the U.S. for venous clot injuries (deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism)....
In March 2013, Bayer agreed to settle, without admission of liability, lawsuits in which plaintiffs allege a gallbladder injury for a total maximum aggregate amount of US$24 million. As per July 8, 2013, about 8,800 plaintiffs have decided to participate in the settlement....

It appears that thus far Bayer has been settling only YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, and certain Gianvi cases. It is expected, however, that Bayer will begin to settle Beyaz and Safyral cases in the relatively near future.
We will continue to monitor Bayer's efforts to negotiate settlements at mediations with plaintiffs' attorneys across the country -- as more YAZ, Yasmin, Ocella, Gianvi, Beyaz, and Safyral lawsuits are filed on behalf of women who suffered a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and/or a pulmonary embolism (PE), including some who died, unfortunately.
